"love thy neighbor..." MARK 12:31
"COMPASSIONATE CHRISTIAN CARE FOR THOSE WE SERVE"
Alzheimer's Specialty Unit
We offer a 16 bed secured unit for those with dementia and related diseases or chronic confusion diagnoses. The unit is specifically for those with a memory loss that disrupts everyday life as evidenced by a gradual and progressive decline in memory, thinking and reasoning skills. We are affiliated with the Eastern Iowa Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. More information can be found at www.alz.org.
Respite Care
We offer brief and temporary periods of accommodations for those with a
health need to allow a break or temporary leave for the care giver. The
length of stay is dependent upon the needs of the care giver - there is much
flexibility with this service.
Physical Therapy
We offer this service five days a week by a contracted provider. The
service is defined as the evaluation, treatment of prevention of disability,
injury, disease or other condition of health using physical, chemical and
mechanical means of including, but not limited to heat, cold, light, sound,
water, air and electricity, massage, mobilization and therapeutic exercise
with or without assistive devices. Medicare does cover this service with a physician's order and ongoing qualification of coverage criteria. For more
information see www.synertex.com
Occupational Therapy
We offer this service five days a week by a contracted provider whose
responsibility is to assess and provide services that help people remain
independent. The range of services includes prevention advice,
rehabilitation advice, provision of equipment solutions, and adaptation of
the home environment. Medicare does cover this service with a physician's
order and ongoing qualification of coverage criteria. For more information
see www.synertex.com
Speech Language Therapy
We offer this service five days a week by a contracted provider whose focus
is the treatment of communication disabilities and swallowing disorders.
Speech therapists facilitate the development and maintenance of human
communication and swallowing through assessment, diagnosis and
rehabilitation. Disorders may result from disease, trauma, congenital
anomaly or prior therapeutic process. These services are covered by
Medicare and require a physician's order to initiate and ongoing
certification to continue. For more information see www.synertex.com
Respiratory Therapy
Respiratory therapists specialize in the assessment and treatment of
breathing disorders including chronic lung problems (e.g. asthma,
bronchitis, emphysema, COPD) and more acute multi-systemic problems stemming
from other pathological conditions such as heart attacks, stroke, or trauma.
RT's are specialists in airway anagement, mechanical ventilation, acid/base
balance and critical care medicine. Vascular access for intravenous lines
(IV), an arterial line or arterial blood gas (ABG) is a number one skill
needed by RT's. Referrals and recommendations are made by the Respiratory Therapist with a physician's order. For more information, see the website
for American Association for Respiratory Care.
Intravenous Fluid Therapy
This is the utilization of a catheter that is inserted into a vein for
supplying medications or nutrients directly into the bloodstream, or for
diagnostic purposes such as studying blood pressure. With a physician's
order and under the direction of a Registered Nurse, we offer this service
as the resident's health requires.
Hospice Care
Hospice care explores a wide spectrum of pain management issues facing
residents at the end of life stages. Hospice also covers the areas of pain
assessment, pharmacological management of pain, substance abuse and pain
management and ethics in pain management. Hospice care also offers services
and support to family members for up to one year after the passing of a
Hospice patient. This program is available with a physician's order and
family authorization. For more information see www.hospiceofcentraliowa.org
Skilled Nursing Services
Because the Good Neighbor Home is Medicare certified, the three therapies
(PT, OT and Speech) are covered by the Medicare Program. There are
qualifying terms that must be met and limited benefit coverages for each of
the disciplines, but most people don't realize Medicare benefits have been
earned over their lifetime and could be available in a skilled setting such
as the Good Neighbor Home if there is a 3 day prior hospital stay.
Please contact the Social Services Director or the Administrator at the Good
Neighbor Home for further information and specific case reviews.
Assisted Living Units
There are 32 assisted living apartments at The Meadows, the sister facility
to the Good Neighbor Home. There are several floor plans and levels of care
from which to choose. Leslie Nussle, Director of The Meadows, is available
for tours and to answer any questions you may have. Assisted living
comforts include the peace of mind of round the clock nursing care, three
meals each day, medication assistance and a variety of activities on a daily
basis.
